Protest

First of all, we do NOT condone violence! There are some great and effective non-violent ways to protest photo enforcement cameras with a minimum of risk and effort. Please consult an attorney before proceeding with any of these actions to understand possible legal ramifications. Please also be aware that these cameras may be recording video at all times so be sure to cover up.

  • Join a CameraFraud.com protest event
  • Don't pay your photo tickets! Wait until you are served, and if you are served, dispute it in court.
  • Disable cameras by spraying the camera lenses with liquid. Water would probably be sufficient to cloud the camera lens cover with water stains making all photos cloudy, but any liquid you have handy should work fine (a soft drink would work well). It's unclear what trouble you might get into for doing this, but if it's considered vandalism, it's only a class 2 misdemeanor in Arizona if damage is under $250 (per ARS 13-1602). Other suggestions are bee/wasp killer (it shoots a stream over 10ft), WD-40, or spray paint if you're daring. Vaseline or Crisco would also work well. If you do get caught, it might help if you don't claim that you know what the purpose of the equipment is. After all, how are we to know what that box on a pole is for? Don't let them tell you it's a traffic control device because it's not. Accidents would not happen if they were disabled and they are not even mentioned in the Arizona driver's manual.
  • Cover camera equipment with a trash bag, or apply stickers, Post-It notes, or tape
  • Put up additional signs to notify drivers that they are approaching photo equipment and websites they can visit for information.
  • If possible, stand or park in front of photo equipment.
  • Promote this website and others like it every chance you get!

While these actions may be border-line illegal, change to our society and policies often begins with a little civil disobedience. Just keep it safe, keep it fun, and be smart about it.

Small Victories

We don't condone this behavior, but we do enjoy it when it happens!
